PLAYGROUP HAVE STARTED!

Whew! The weather is starting to cool down, and now our play dates are steadily heading indoors. Jennifer has organized the playgroups this year, so if you haven't signed up with her, please get in touch! :0) We've still got a couple of plans for outside activities this month, so don't miss out! With that said--- Did you know? Our full Calendar is now on meetup.com. If you haven't applied for the group, this would be a great place to do it as you will have access to the calendar once you're approved. So now that we're heading indoors, any ideas for activities?

Getting Real About Stranger Danger

A terrifying experience that no parent wants their children to go through. Just this last September, a child who attends Pope Elementary was followed by a man on his way home from school. As the child started to run, so did the stranger, and the boy was able to evade him by heading for a neighbor's door. When I received the notice from Puyallup School District about this attempt, I knew that we needed another refresher in Stranger Danger.

Stranger Danger Education is great at any age. With Summer Fast approaching, our children will be hitting the public parks, pools, and recreational activities. The threat is real, but it doesn't have to cause fear or anxiety, or preventing us from enjoying what summer has to offer. MOMs Club is giving you this opportunity to get prepared! Bring your child(ren) to our Stranger Danger event!

Our Moms are Luved!

Valentines day is going to be here before you know it! It's typical to plan this day with your someone special, so what's a Moms Club to do? We luved our moms! This is the typical Ding Dong Ditch idea with a Valentine's Twist. A gift with Valentine's goodies is dropped at the door of someone on our rooster, along with a note and door sign (Attached below!). The poem reads:

You are LUVED!
We're out to show how much friends care
During the month love's in the air.
Cupid's after things to do.
In fact Cupid brought this treat to you.
Hang your heart for all to see
On your doors where it should be.
It will show that you are cared for
By a MOMS Club friend with good rapport.
The treats that came with Cupid's note
Are yours to keep; enjoy them both
The love is shown when friends like you
Copy this and give it out among friends
You've made in MOMS Club - don't let it end!
Just one short day to work your magic.
Don't let love's scorn be tragic
And don't forget a nifty treat,
Like something cute or something sweet.
Please join the fun and of all above
Have some fun and spread the LUV!

From candy to cookies, to décor and stickers, our moms (and their children) were showered with all kinds of wonderful gifts-- and just like a solid community does-- the love continues to spread! Here's what moms said:

We were luved! Such a good welcome home!!
Taylor

We were luved too! Such a nice surprise after a cruddy day. :)
Mellissa

We were luv'd today! Boys have devoured the chocolates already. ...oh-and I had a few too. ha!
Jessica

We’ve been loved!  And this means so much to us today after a very long and trying day.  Thank you!!
Vanessa

We were luved today.  Thank you!  The gifts are lovely, and I loooove chocolate. :)
Adrienne

If you would like to replicate this with your own community, let us know how it goes! Of course, Our group always has room for one more mom to love on, so if you've been on the fence for a while, give yourself a little love and join! We'll be happy to have you!

Oh What Fun!

Look What's Happening with Moms Club of South Hill this month! Snow has hit the ground this morning in Puyallup, but that is not stopping our activities! This month is full of holidays, giving, and plain old fun!  Here is a small hint at what we are up to:

Collecting Stuffed Animals, and Toys

Black Friday resulted in many donations from the Moms Club fund; members braved the crowds to purchase toys for children ages 0- 18. In addition, other members have thrown in a gift or two otherwise, and the items are headed for the South Hill Food bank later this month!

Ornaments Abound!

Two days in a row, it's all about the ornaments! Mid-month we'll have one day to exchange ornaments and another to make them. Our trees will be full of fun this year!

Holiday Happenings!

From public events to making cards and writing to Santa, decorating cookies and gingerbread houses, to white elephant gifts, Mom's club is taking the Holidays by storm! Since we're talking about the holidays; Mom's Club would like to wish all families a wonderful holiday season!

Good Ol' Favorites!

Mom's Club would be nothing without our favorites! Playgroups, Jump, and themed play dates will be going all throughout the month. Don't forget that we are always looking for new mothers to love on! Our next new member event will be at the Graham Library, 12/11 at 10:15 am. We'd love to see you there!

Playgroups Are Back!

Playgroup time is here! Please contact Jennifer at mvp.momsclub@yahoo.com if you want to join the Thursday Playgroup. Playgroups run September-June, but you can always join mid-year. Playgroups are included in your MOMS Club Membership!

Playgroup meet Thursdays, either from 9:30-11:30am OR 2:00-4:00pm. We had such a high interest in playgroups this year that we have two different Thursday morning groups and one Thursday afternoon group! Each group has 4-6 moms in it and members take turns hosting the group. This is a wonderful way to meet a small group of moms and their children. MOMS Club members rave about playgroups and most will tell you their closest friends were the women and children they were in playgroup with when they first joined MOMS Club!

It's never too late to join...

Apple Picking in Downtown Puyallup!

Apple Picking: Tuesday, October 4th 2011
Kids had a fantastic time picking apples at the YMCA's Friend & Servants Farm. We have picked apples here for several years, and it's always a blast. The trees were right at kid-picking level and they loved eating them right off the tree! This farm works great for kids since the trees haven't been treated, so they are welcome to eat as they pick! We also saw the vegetable garden and were able to pull up a few carrots. We'll be sure to visit this farm again next year, and maybe early enough in the season to pick marionberries! Yum!
Kids enjoying their apples!

Posing for a quick photo before running to get more apples!!

Service Projects

Part of the mission of MOMS Club is to participate in service projects that benefit mothers and children in our area. In December we held a toy drive for the South Hill-Graham Food Bank. We collected toys, as well as fundraised to help buy additional toys. We filled 2 cars with toys for children, and several members were able to volunteer their time to pass out the toys to the families in need. It was a wonderful and very rewarding service project.

We are currently collecting clothing for the Family Renewal Shelter, a local shelter serving women and children escaping domestic violence situations. We will be collecting clothing through February to deliver to them.

Fall Outings

This fall we visited a local apple orchard in the Puyallup Valley. The kids were able to pick apples and walk through the farm, run by the YMCA. It was a fun experience for the kids and moms!

We also visited Spooner Farm in Orting. Kids picked out pumpkins, raced plastic ducks using the hand water pumps, and saw all sorts of animals.

Tulip Farms!

This week the Moms Club of South Hill visited the Tulip Farms. The kiddos got a chance to explore the flowers and paths with their friends, and the Moms were able to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine together.

Some of the kids played hide and seek amongst the flowers, while the Moms tried to get quick snapshots. The train whistle near the tracks and crossing was a highlight for all!

Several of the kids were even able to sit still long enough to get a posed shot!

Moms Club of South Hill is looking for new members and if you are a Stay-At-Home mom in the zipcodes of 98373 (South of 512), 98374, or 98375, we would love to meet you!
